Where to find it

  • Tools > Settings > Authoring Settings > Recording > Generate Macros for Inactive Edit Fields

Purpose

By default, for Input Text macros in simulation projects, users need to click in the input field and enter the required text. This is all captured in the same macro during recording. However, in some applications (most notably SAP R/3 and ECC 6.0) when the user clicks in the input field, the appearance of the field changes (in SAP, it is given a yellow background to indicate that this is now the 'active' field). Selecting the Generate Macros for Inactive Edit Fields setting will cause the 'click in the field' action to be captured in a separate (Mouse Action) macro, with its own screenshot. This will create a more realistic simulation, as the field will appear to change to the 'active' field, before the text is entered. The down-side is that the simulation is longer.
