Where to find it

  • Manager > Administration > Server Settings menu > Connected workarea category > Enable Workarea Extensibility Feature setting

Purpose

Edit Workarea dialog box, showing the Base Workarea field.

If this setting checkbox is selected then it is possible to define one Workarea (A) as being 'based on' another Workarea (B). This allows content in Workarea B to be visible in Workarea A - where it can be 'fetched' and changed, if necessary. Selecting this setting results in the Base Workarea field being available in the Edit Workarea dialog box.

Use

This feature (of being able to base one Workarea on another) is typically used for one of the following scenarios:

  • To base a customer Workarea on a 'standard' SAP-provided Workarea, to provide access to help or training content built by SAP.
  • To base a number of customer Workareas on a single 'configuration' Workarea to facilitate easy sharing of common assets (such as templates, etc.)

Note that it is only possible to base one Workarea on another single Workarea that itself is not based on a third Workarea (that is, you cannot 'daisychain' Workareas).
