Where to find it

  • Resources > Documentation Settings > {Document Type} > Project Content > Heading Level (Single Documents) setting

Purpose

This setting determines the heading levels to be used in the generated document.

Use

The Simulation Name is formatted using the Microsoft Word text style Heading x where x is the number specified in this setting. The Steps within the simulation will then use a style of Heading x+1. Headings are always numbered, which means if you leave this setting as the default value of 2, the document will look like:

1.1 Simulation Title
1.1.1. Step 1 Name
1.1.2. Step 2 Came
etc.

This works OK if you subsequently create a Master document, because the Master document Title will use the Level 1 heading, giving you:

1. Master Document Title
1.1 Simulation 1 Title
1.1.1. Step 1 Name
1.1.2. Step 2 Name
etc.
1.2 Simulation 2 Title
1.2.1. Step 1 Name
1.2.2. Step 2 Name
etc.

However, if you only ever generate single documents, it is usually better to set this setting to 1.

Do not set this setting to 0. Although that might seem logical as then only the Steps will have numbers, the Heading 1 style forces a page break before the heading, so each Step would start on a new page
