Roles

Scope

Purpose

This property specifies the roles that are associated with the content object. These roles can then be used to filter the content in the Desktop Assistant and Learning Center. Filters can also be defined to use Roles, and these filters can also be made available to users in the Trainer (see Use filter in unfiltered library and Use filter in prefiltered library).

Use

The Property parameter is a text box, into which free-form text can be entered. Because it is free-form, Authors can enter any value (as opposed to selecting from a pre-defined list). Because the values entered have some fairly far-reaching implications in terms of the user interface, it is strongly recommended that a finite set of 'official' roles be defined (maybe in a Text Unit), and then Authors directed to only use roles defined in this list.
