Where to find it
- Manager > Administration > Server Settings menu > Versionining category > Timeout for new version at commit setting
Purpose
Whenever you change a content object and then Finish Editing, your changes are saved as a new version of the content object. Any intermediate saves to the server do not create a new version - only when you finish editing. This setting allows you to specify the number of minutes (since the last version was created) after which the save to server will create a new version, even if the Author has not finished editing.
This is helpful for longer editing sessions, as it creates intermediate versions you could 'revert to' if necessary, but should be used with caution as it can create multiple unnecessary versions that then need to be cleared out using Housekeeping.
