  1. I can’t edit the files in SEN
Hello Dirk I hope you can help me

I have the following problem; When entering any file in my Producer, which is already recorded and edited, it appears blank in Wysiwyg without showing what was recorded. Now, in the thumbnail View if each of the steps and actions appear, the same in the Macro Editor. This problem does not let me generate changes of any kind, what can I do when faced with this problem?

    Stay tuned,
    Thank you so much

    1. When did this start happening? After the upgrade? If you’ve checked the latest Trainer is the default / being used and you still have a problem, open an Incident with SAP. Does this happen for all simulations and/or all users? If it is just you, you might want to delete your Producer Workarea and recreate it.

      1. Hello Dirk,
So far it has only happened to me. I have two users that I manage, one of them is the admin (SEN super user, in which I can’t export to MP4) and the other is a SEN Master Author (in the latter I can’t do anything).

What do you mean by deleting the producer work area and recreating it? can you guide me for it?
        Thank you

        1. So it is happening to (only) you but under two separate Userids? That sounds like it is something on your PC that is causing problems. Do you have the ability to try on another PC? Or has anything changed on your PC (new malware filters, etc.)? Deleting your Producer is a last-ditch, extreme solution, but if you don’t have another option, do this:
          1. Make sure everything is Saved to Server and Finished Editing
          2. In Producer, make a note of your Workarea location (it is shown in the Directory property of your Workarea). This will look something like C:\Users\{you}\AppData\Local\CloudWA\{workarea}_{userid}
          3. Close Producer
          4. Go to the noted Producer location in File Explorer, and rename the entire Group to something else (add “BACKUP_” at the start, or something).
          5. Start Producer (from Manager) – it will treat you as a first-time user and recreate your Producer Workarea. This may take a while.
          6. Synchronize and try your changes. If the work now, great. If not, delete this new Workarea and rename your old one back to what it was. Then open an Incident.

  2. Hi Dirk!

To record and display content through SAP Companion in SAP GUI, it is necessary that the scripting permission is enabled in the environment, with the role Y: SSBR-AMS-SI-ALLOWRPAACCESS-S.
Will there be an authorization object, or a value that we can identify in a new role created for this project, that allows scripting only for SAP Enable Now/Companion? Since we only need scripting to be enabled for this function

    1. It’s not possible to enable scripting only for SAP Enable Now – it is either enabled or disabled. But I do get asked that every so often so there’s clearly a need for it – may be worth opening an Incident or submitting a Customer Influence Request…although this would require coordination between the SAP Enable Now team and the application team so I wouldn’t expect a quick response.

      1. Thanks!

Another question, where I can find the XML file of the trust certificate of the tenant of SAP Enable Now?

  3. Hi Dirk,

Hope you are doing well! Quick question on books and book pages – I have created a small course which consists of book and book pages within. Can I convert it into a video (just like we do for simulations) and download it? If yes how?

    Thanks
    John

    1. Hi, John. No there is not. Probably because Book Pages typically require some interaction (to click the next button, or there is some actual interaction). But even for full auto-advance, the best you can do is use SnagIt or Camtasia to capture yourself presenting it (don’t forget to include system sound). Sorry.

  4. Hi Dirk,
    Hope you are well.

Are there any recommendations or best practices regarding Enable Now On-Premise sizing?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. The Manager Implementation Guide just says “At least 30Gb” of disk space (assuming you are talking about space – else “Intel® Xeon® Processor or equivalent with at least 4 cores at 2.2 GHz or higher”). How much actual disk space you need will vary based on the amount (and type) of content you have and how diligent you are about deleting older versions. I can’t find any specific guidelines (e.g. X Gb per 1,000 simulations, or anything similar. If you contact your CEE/CSP they may be able to find some benchmarking figures from other customers. Sorry I don’t have a better answer.

  5. Hello Dirk,

My question may have been missed. I was hoping you can assist, is there a way to change the font colors to the headings in the compound document? I’m trying to change the color of the heading title to something else other than the preset color. Thanks!

    1. Yes, I saw; I just didn’t get to it yet, because it was only yesterday…

I’ve had a similar problem with Compound Documents, where I am creating a ‘printable’ document for a course of Book Pages. The problem is that SAP Enable Now always insists on including the Book Page Title in the Compound Document. I have submitted a Customer Influence Request to get a checkbox in the Documentation Settings > Compound Document > Book Page to suppress Book Page Titles, but they are there for now (whereas you can suppress them for some other types of objects). SAP Enable Now uses its own Text Styles hx style for the headings, so you could define your own Text Style Resource to use for Compound Documents, and set the relevant hx style tto be white (and 6pt – it won’t let you go any lower than that) and that should suppress it. I did try hacking the CSS to make Hidden, but that didn’t carry over to Word.

  6. Hello Dirk. I am trying to create a document (exploring all options right now (hands-on, standard, training, etc…). I currently have my simulation bubbles set to 32px. We need this so they can be shown in the front of the room on a whiteboard without needing to get closer. We also would like to create documentation for the students to be able to download and take with them after the course. Whenever I create a document, it transfers the font size that I use in the demo or practice bubbles directly to word and it is too big for the document. I can manually edit this, bu tis there a way to keep the simulation text at 32px, and have it auto convert into the documentation file as 14 pt?

    1. Use a separate Text Styles resource for documents and for simulations. By default a single text Styles resource is used for both, but you can duplicate this, change it so it is suitable for documents, and then set that (new copy) as the Text Style resource to use for the Document in Documentation Settings > {document type} > Text Style.

(And yes, both questions came through; I just don’t always have the opportunity to answer them immediately. Thanks for your patience.)

      1. Thanks Dirk. I am still having issues with this. The text style I am using in th resources is the basic “Text Styles”. When I open the settings for “text Styles” the editor displays font size is already set to 16px. This should provide a 12-14pt font when I create the document. I also duplicated the “Text Styles” and set this to 8px. Then went to my “Documentation settings” and changed the hands-on guide to use my duplicated text style. I created the guide and the layout formatting (headings, etc.) changed, but the demo and practice text that is in the bubbles remains at 24 (very large).

        1. So in the default Text Styles resource the Base text style is set to 16px? The default is 13px so I assume you are deliberately making it large(r). Base is used for Bubbles but also for a bunch of other things, so be careful about changing it. You also have the option to change the text size in the Bubble Style, which I’m assuming takes priority (and then, of course, there is direct formatting in Bubble text…). As you note, px is used in some places and pt in others (even within Book Pages, for online display…), so be careful there. On top of all this, there are the text Styles in Word itself – are typically carried over from the SEN Text Styles via the CSS, but sometimes SEN will just ‘guesstimate’ text sizes as it converts px to pt. Without seeing everything it is difficult to tell, but what I have found helps is to go into Word and see what (Word) styles (or direct formatting) are being applied, and then tracing back to see where these are defined. Sorry I don’t have more info to share (actually I do have a bit more, but it’s sat behind my paywall…).

  7. Hello Dirk,

Is there a way to change the font colors to the headings in the compound document? The reason is that when a compound doc is generated, the name/title can sometimes appear to be duplicated if the title on the book slides is the same. I’m trying to see if I can make the font headings white without messing with the titles on the book slides. Thanks!

  8. Hi Dirk! Thank you for offering your expert advice on SAP!

The users of Enable Now that I am working with say that the simulations that are created on Producer mostly only follow a ‘happy path’ with the assumption that the user will not make a mistake. It also does not account for common errors and exceptions. Do you have a recommendation within Enable Now to resolve this to allow a more deeper learning experience for the user?

    Thanks!
    V

    1. Yes, that is generally how they are built – specifically for the ‘happy path’ – because typically you want to teach people the correct way to do something (often prior to go-live). But I get your point – and have heard the same comments, before.

There is a slight degree of flexibility in SAP Enable Now in that you can have decisions and alternative paths, but they all rely on the learner making a choice. You can be creative with this, and ask “What do you think you should do here?” or “You may see one of the following errors; click on one to see how to handle it” but it takes quite a bit of effort. Generally, if I need to provide ‘troubleshooting’ or ‘exception’ training I will record separate simulations for that. I don’t have a problem with recording multiple simulations for the same task, but different scenarios, or different errors – often they are more useful in the long term than the ‘happy path’ simulation. If you want to keep some ‘surprise’ in the training you can name them “Entering an Order (Scenario 1)”, “…(Scenario 2)”, etc. But being up-front and having “Entering an Order”, “Entering an Order (Availability Issue)”, “Entering an Order (Credit Block)” etc. is more useful for longer-term use.

But in terms of allowing the user to ‘play around’ and respond to mistakes they make, no there’s not a lot you can do about that. No ‘simulation’ application is really good at allowing ‘roaming around’.

  9. When creating Guided Tours sometimes users would like to see the icon they are meant to click on (ex: download), especially if the hotspot functionality isn’t precise on that screen! Is there a best practice for where to create and store a bank of commonly used icons for that purpose as it appears that Companion requires you to link to the image rather than directly inserting it.

    1. Add the images to your Workarea (the same one you use for the SAP Companion content) – ideally as Media Objects – and then use the Web Editor to insert those images ‘From Workarea’ into the Bubble Text.
