  1. Hi Team,

Currently, we are assigning one user for one course in Enable now manager, and it is quite difficult for a consultant to go on screen one by one and assign the course to the respective user.

So, is there any functionality to overcome this? i.e do we have any provision for mass user assignment for the respective course?

    1. You can assign a course to a User, to a Role, or to an Organizational Unit – but as you’ve seen, you can only do that for one of these at a time. As far as I know, there is no ‘mass selection’ or upload capability. Sorry. Your best option is probably to create a new Role (don’t worry about permissions), assign all Users that need this course to that Role (in addition to any existing Roles) – and this you can do for multiple users at the same time), and then assign the course to that new Role.

  2. Hello Dirk,
Enable now assistant is coming for only standard SAP apps on my fiori launchpad. How can i get this on my custom apps? and where actually this can be controlled?

    1. Short answer is you can’t – Web Assistant is specific to Fiori (at the moment, but changes are coming soon). You can use Desktop Assistant and get it to look like Web Assistant, but that’s about it.

  3. Hi Dirk,

Hope you are doing well during COVID and staying healthy. Have a quick question on migrating Workforce Performance Builder content to Enable Now – are there recommendations on how to do this, and is it even recommended to migrate vs. create new? Planning to upgrade to S/4 HANA in about 2 years but wanting to upgrade to SEN now.

    1. You’re going from on-prem WPB to on-prem Enable Now, or to cloud Enable Now? Either way, getting your content from one to the other is probably a simple export then import of the .dkp, but the (customized) resources are likely to be a bit more difficult, depending on versions. If it’s on-prem to on-prem, it’s probably best you refer to SAP KBA 2490824 which has some fairly extensive instructions. I haven’t found anything similar for moving to cloud, but I’ll dig around and see if I can find anything else. In the meantime you may want to contact your CEE and see what they offer – SAP may have a simple path and/or some migration tools to help, as they do like to encourage customers to move to cloud…

    1. You want to install Desktop Assistant? For cloud implementations, there is no download – it’s just a URL (which can be different depending on whether Java or the SEN Launcher is being used). For on-premise implementations there is a download. In either case, they are client-specific and your SAP Enable Now Admin person should be able to provide you with the relevant URL or the download link.

      1. Thanks for the reply, I am the “de-facto” admin so trying to figure out how to get it setup. We are cloud, but for some reason I thought there was still a desktop application that needed to be installed on the users computer to use Desktop Assistant, I knew the Web Assistant did not need one.

Where in the “admin” console would I find this, I looked but clearly am missing something.

        1. Oh, right. OK, well users do need the SAP Enable Now Launcher ‘installed’ (assuming you are using that and not Java), but once they have that, they just need the URL. They can download/install the Launcher from a URL in the format: https://{client}.enable-now.cloud.sap/app/SAP-Enable-Now-Launcher.msi?download=1. Now, for Desktop Assistant they will launch it from a URL in the format https://{client}.enable-now.cloud.sap/wa/{workarea}/~tag/published/group/{DA Group}/.inav. The tricky part is you really need it to be automatically started when the user starts up their PC (because if they have to go and find the URL to open it they likely won’t bother). Generally I find it easiest to set up a .bat file in the user’s startup folder that opens this URL (so from this perspective, technically I guess they do need to install something…). It would be best to work with your IT people to get this done and rolled out to all your users (I typically have them put together an installer that installs the Launcher and then the .bat script at the same time). 4. H Dirk,

So I am working with a client that have recorded 700 simulations. Is the only way to link these to Fiori is to use Web Assistant? For the simulations that are GUI based I see instructions to download the context file to be used but I am so unsure as how they can link in Fiori at all after looking at the instructions.

    Thanks!

    1. Michelle: The best way is to use Web Assistant, as that provides you with additional in-app help capabilities. But if you can’t use Web Assistant (maybe you are on prem and SQL), the next alternative would be to use Desktop Assistant. That’s the same thing you would use for any (non-Fiori) Windows application – including SAPGui. The Context Help File is specific for use with SAPGui (typically ECC 6.0). It is relatively simple in operation. Once you have generated the Context Help File you need to put it on a Web Server somewhere, and then point your SAP system to it (transaction SM30 on table WPBHELP_URL). You can put this file back in your SAP Enable Now instance, but you have to disable the ‘Forbid Active Content‘ setting first to do this. You cannot use the Context Help File with Fiori. If you have a mix of Fiori and non-Fiori simulations (and you can use Web Assistant) the best option is to use both Web Assistant and Desktop Assistant, and make sure DA is running in WA mode so the two look the same. 1. Hi Dirk,

Thanks for a quick response. So just so I am clear, I would have to recreate everything for Web Assistant as some of these functions they are using in Fiori don’t have SAP Content I can edit. Or are you saying the best thing to do is just put everything to Desktop Assistant so the users can get the help until we are able to recreate the content with Web Assistant.

        Thanks,

        1. Michelle: You don’t need to recreate everything in Web Assistant. If you just want your existing simulations to be accessible from Web Assistant (as simulations) then you just need to make sure they have the correct Fiori system / context captured (which is done automatically at recording time, if you record against Fiori). They will then appear on the Learning page of Web Assistant. This is often the ‘fastest/easiest’ approach to making existing content available via Web Assistant. If you want full-function Web Assistant Guided Tours then yes, these need to be created in Web Assistant. But think carefully about how many apps/tasks you really need full Guided Tours for (especially if you already have simulations for them). HTH. >Dirk

  5. Hello Dirk,

What is the approach for workflows usage with Web Assistant content creation and editing? If we going to use workflows for normal content creation (simulations, books, etc). is there any way or recommendation how to assign tasks for Web Assistant content creation?

Thank in advance for your help!
    Best Regards,
    Yury

    1. Good question! In short, there is no direct Workflow capabilities within Web Assistant – there are no Tasks, and no Statuses that can be set by the Author. That said, each help project (Tiles for a page, or a Guided Tour) is created as a separate object in SAP Enable Now that you could apply a Workflow Process to in Manager or Producer, and control the same way. Web Assistant content is created in ‘draft’ mode, and then still needs to be published just like any other content object (but in Web Assistant it is done via a menu option and not by selecting a checkbox). So you could apply the same workflow approval / auto-publish process to this. It would mean that an Author (who, presumably, you would give Create but not Publish permissions) would have to go into Manager/Producer after they have created the help content, and assign a Workflow Process to the object. And the approver wouldn’t be able to access the content object they need to review via the email notification (which would contain the application page name as the Title), so would need to review content in the actual application (and not via Manager/Producer) and then go back in to SAP Enable Now to approve it. So not a clean, seamless process, but theoretically possible. Hope that helps – Dirk.

  6. Hello Dirk,

Would you please explain how can I reach the SAP standard contents? I’m currently use SAP Enable Now only for creating the custom contents.

Alos, when I record a simulation on SAP GUI, the speed of recoding is quite slow. What could be the reason about that?

    Thanks in advanced.

    Regards,

    1. You need to have the standard SAP content Workarea connected to your own implementation. You will then be able to access it just like your own workarea, and see the content. If you want your users to also be able to see this content, you need to extend this to your own Workarea (by setting your Workarea to be ‘based on’ the standard workarea. Hope this helps.

  7. Hi Dirk,

did you ever change the manager style? I want to change the SAP logo into a custom logo in the cloud manager (top left). According to the SAP Customization Guide this is possible, but the procedure in the Guide is rather useless… If I export the ui.dkp from the _system workarea there only is an entity.xml without information about the logo…
If you did it before, can you explain how to edit the UI resource?

    Thank you for any help!

    1. Personally, no. In a cloud implementation it is a bit more difficult as you have to send the customized file in to SAP to get it loaded into the relevant place (although I know they are working on making it possible from within your own implementation. If you can’t get a file that contains the settings you need, contact your SAP CEE and ask them if they can provide one in the correct format.

  8. Hi Dirk,

we are facing a strange issue with Producer.
We have already checked the permissions and everything looks fine
We can reach the manager, but when we launch the Producer we get the popup “User did not make access in the last month, Cloud Producer is no longer available”.

Could you give a hint on such issue?

    Thanks a lot,
    Pier

    1. Sorry for the delayed response. Are you on-prem, or cloud? I would guess that it is happening because the user has been deactivated. There is a Server setting to deactivate users if they have not accessed anything within the last xxx period. Change this setting to something bigger, reactivate the user, and try again.

        1. The setting to auto deactivate users is in the Manager, under Administration > Server Settings > Automatic User Deactivation..

  9. What reasons would lead to my last clip of a simulation not playing? I inserted a page macro image onto that clip, maybe I did something wrong with that process that would lead to the simulation ending early?

    1. Not sure what you mean by the “last clip not playing”. You mean the last Step just doesn’t display? There could be several reasons for this – the most obvious being that the Simulation End macro comes before it. Does it not appear in ANY playback mode? Check the macro settings under Simulation and make sure they are OK. Also check the Display Duration is not 1s or something small. Failing that, send me the .dkp file and I’ll take a look at it (rename it to .zip so the email gods don’t reject it). dirk@enablenowexpert.com.

      1. Yes, that is what I meant. My last step wasn’t playing. I figured out it was because there wasn’t an action on that step. When I added an image it created the step without the action. So I added an explanation for action and it works now! Thank you for your reply.
