Hi Dirk,
In my projects, the auto-generated action texts, eg. “Click Company Code”, etc., has incorrect punctuation placements. If I start correcting it for every step in each project its time consuming. How and where should I make changes to the source to ensure the punctuations are correct. Please guide.
Thanks,
Shubham
It’s probably not incorrect punctuation per se – I’m going to hazard a guess that it is because an Object Image wasn’t captured (or was deactivated). The auto-generated texts effectively generate a text of (for example) “Click on the {Object Name} {Object Image} button. If an image isn’t captured, the {Object Image} is effectively empty so nothing is displayed – but you still get the space either side of this – so a double-space. If you never include the Object Image (or so seldom that you’re OK with (re)inserting it via a Placeholder the few times you do want to use it) you can update the Recording Dictionary to insert only the Object Name and not the Object Image; then the extra space will not appear.
Yes. Actually in some cases only Object Name is used and in some cases only Object image is used. If I am deselecting Object image an additional space is created before period/full stop.
If I have understood correctly from your reply, this extra space can be removed manually only if I have to keep either of the two on case to case basis?
The extra space can be removed automatically if you only want to use one or the other (by default – you can always re-insert them). If BOTH are used consistently then you won’t see an extra space. The problem is where you have placeholders for BOTH in the Recording Dictionary but then only have one of these in the simulation – that’s where you need to manually edit. I have a Customer Improvement Request in to fix this, but I’m not expecting that to be implemented any time soon.
Thank you Dirk for your help and guidance.
Hi Dirk, the hands-on guide generated in my project is not showing the step numbers property. Each step is numbered 1 instead of 1,2,3… and so on. Plz guide as to how can I rectify this.
Go to the document definition under Document Settings, and under the Numbering category change indexing to one of the Global options.
Thank you so much Dirk. It helped.
Hi Dirk,
Can I make changes to Responsive HTML Document under Document Style (HTML)? If yes, how should I do that? When I am checking it out and clicking it to edit, the page is not opening for any editing. Kindly guide.
I wouldn’t change that if I were you – not unless you have a very detailed knowledge of HTML and how this document type has been put together. It is extremely complex and not designed to be customized. Because it is an HTML file that is an asset of the document style resource you would need to edit it outside of SAP Enable Now.
Hi Dirk,
i saw in your wiki that for simulations and quizzes an individual “Required Score” can be set under the LMS properties of that object. Is it also possible to set a completion status for a book if exporting it to an LMS? Currently, once the book is opened in the LMS it directly is shown as completed. Any hints where I can adjust this for SCORM exports?
Thanks!
Laura
It depends on the LMS and how it handles SCORM, but if you have Playback Settings > book reader > Tracking (SCORM) > Progress and Result Tracking set to Only Progress then the user should need to visit every Book Page within the Book for the Book to be marked as complete. If that’s not what you’re seeing, see if you can switch tracking on and see what the LMS is recording as you progress.
It does get more complicated if you have linked simulations and/or quizzes within the Book (linked to from Book Pages) and also want to track these (I think you need to use Result and progress for the Book and for the Test mode).
Is there a file size limit when recording a simulation?
Jason: Effectively, no. You’re only constrained by file size in Windows (which you are extremely unlikely to hit as SAP Enable Now saves a simulation as multiple very small files – each screenshot is a separate file; each macro is a separate file) and internet bandwidth (which you are also unlikely to hit, again, because it is many small files). I’ve seen simulations as large as 250 steps with no issues. However, I’d be wary of going too long. My golden rule is that a simulation should cover “a single business task which is carried out at one time, from beginning to end, by a single user”. If that task takes 1,000 steps then so be it (for example, entering a master data record that has 200+ data points), but try not to include multiple tasks ‘just to show the complete process’ – it is better to split it into separate (task-specific) simulations, and ‘link’ them by saying something like “The next step in the process is to xxx as described in yyy”. You could maybe even hyperlink it, but you’d have to be careful the next step replaces the current step, instead of being opened in a new window/tab over the current step.
Could you tell me where in your Book: SAP Enable Now Development you explain how to make published content in Enable now show up in Context Sensitive Help?
For Web Assistant? You need to make sure the following properties are populated for the content object: Context (should have the screen name in it), and under Web Assistant Context, the Product Name and Product Version need to be there (and match the actual application). If you record a simulation against the application this will be captured automatically. For a Book / Book Page, make sure you are in edit mode (in Producer) then click on the Record Context button and select Web Assistant Context from the drop-down.
Hi Dirk,
I couldn’t reply directly to your previous answer… 🙁
So I need to remove the Highlights parameters for the Authoring part too ? And keep only “Playback Settings > General > Highlights” ?
I checked in the projects itself’s properties and the LED is not activated, the Red appears by default in the settings, but it’s not reflecting when playing the Demo…
The Configuration>Default looks also OK.
How can I reset the cache ?
What Highlight parameters are you changing for Authoring?
It would have to be the browser cache, for playback. Just clear that. Or display the content in Incognito Mode.
Hi Dirk,
So I rest all the parameters we’ve put with my colleague and set back the ones you advised, and now it works as expected.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Hello,
I’m a new user of SAP SEN, so I may have a lot of questions to come… 🙂 For now, there’re 2 issues I’d need your help with :
First point is regarding Adaptable resources edition : despite having the Master Author role, I cannot edit the styles or color palette in my Workarea (it works for my colleagues who apparently have same roles as me)
Second point : with my colleagues we’d like to create short documentations for internal SEN use : is it possible to capture simulations of our Producer itself ?
Thanks in advance for your help !
How are you trying to edit the Adaptable Resources? For all Resources, you need to Start Editing first, before you can change them. You can’t just double-click on them like you can for content objects. If you can’t Start Editing then you don’t have permission. By default the ability to edit Resources is limited to Master Authors, but could have been configured to only allow Admins to do it. You’ll need to check.
Recording simulations of how to record simulations: No, not really. You can only have one copy of Producer open at a time, and this is automatically hidden as soon as you start recording, so it can’t record itself. I’d recommend against doing that, anyway – it can get confusing during playback. You should be able to get by with a set of Book Pages (maybe with some animation on there) or worst case capture a video using SnagIt or Camtasia or something. That will likely be more effective.
Hello Dirk,
Thanks a lot for your feedback !
I have a new question… One of our customer is asking us to customize its environment and to set the highlights color to “Red”. I changed all the parameters accordingly in Producer in the Authoring and Playback settings
The look is ok when creating the simulations, but when we switch to playback view, it still appears with the Blue default color.
I reviewed the parameters with one of my colleagues more experienced than me on SEN but we do not find where the issue is, he told me that all params look ok for him 🙁
We also changed the Macro Fallback Defaults but nothing changed…
All other custo we did were taken into account correctly.
Any hint where we can check ?
How are you playing them back? Did you remember to publish the updated Playback Settings? Check the simulation does not specify the blue itself – make sure the properties are inactive to set it back to the (new) default. Let me know if you still have problems.
Yes, we tested several times and parameters were plublished too.
We set the parameter to “Red” in :
Authoring Settings > Macro Initialization > Interactions > Highlight > Highlight Color (activated)
(Highlight > Simulation :: parameters’ LED also greened for Demo and Practice Mode)
Playback Settings > General > Highlights
Playback Settings > Macro Fallback Defaults > Interactions > Highlight
When we record the simulation, it appears correctly in the WYSIWYG project editor.
But when we play it (Demo mode), it’s still Blue 🙁
We notice that we need to activate the parameter in the simulation itself (Tools>Settings>…) to have it taken into account, this is a workaround but we fear it’d be missed by the customer’s Authors…
Carine: OK, a couple of things.
First, you are changing the property under Playback Settings > General > Highlights > Color. That should be the only place you need to change it. Under Playback Settings > General > Project Overrides > Highlights make sure Color is NOT enabled (LED is not green). That will make it use the default. The Playback Settings > Macro Fallback Defaults > Interactions > Highlight setting is for a Highlights macro – it does not affect any ‘action macro’ highlights (although you would normally want it to be the same as the Action Macro Highlights). There is no other place this should be activated or changed – just in that one place in the Playback Settings. Make sure that is Published, and if you are still seeing the old version it is likely a caching issue.
Oh, make sure your Playback Settings resource is the DEFAULT one; this will normally change the Configurations > Default resource, so make sure that is checked in and published as well.
Hi Dirk,
I am back with one more issue with the SEN. It would be great if you can give me some idea about this problem.
Every time one of my colleagues is trying to finish editing, his changes are discarded and the object is moved to the Unsorted folder.
Few inputs for the same:
– He is not using two or more computers/workstations/instances/workareas which may result in editing conflicts in the Manager
– He does not have more than one user ID assigned to his name/email ID
– He does not use VPN/Citix/Virtual Desktop to connect with the Manager
Thank you in advance!
Warm regards,
Johanna
Johanna: I can’t say I have seen this before. First, check this is not a a permissions issue. Check this Author’s Roles vs. what everyone else has (I’m assuming you don’t have directly-applied permissions…). Next, some clarifying questions: Are you cloud or on-prem? You say his changes are being ‘discarded’? But they are still being saved locally, right? So if he is in the editor and saves, those changes are being saved and he sees the purple asterisk against the object icon? Assuming the problem occurs when he clicks Finish Editing, is there an error message that is displayed? Or what happens? The fact this object is being moved to Unsorted implies there is an issue with the Group it is located in. That hasn’t been deleted by another Author, has it? Check: Does this happen every time for this Author, regardless of which Group the content object is located in? And does it happen for every object, or just this one? Sorry, I know that’s more questions than answers, but it might help narrow down the problem.
Hi Dirk,
Thank you for your response!
I am happy to answer all questions, gives me ideas for next time, addresses all grey areas.
Here are the answers:
Permission Issues: None, he has 2 roles – Learner and Standard Author
On-prem
Changes: Yes, they are being saved but not in the original simulation but mostly as a copy in the Unsorted since Producer detects another sim with the same UID already existing (so now he has two in the Manager!)
Finish Editing: The message received is “You are already editing this object. A copy will be saved in the Unsorted folder” (not verbatim, but Im sure you know what I mean). I have checked in the Manager, this object is not being edited by anyone at that time and all editings had been cancelled from the server side
Group location: No, it is assigned to a parent object in the Manager and the same structure is maintained in the local Producer. The parent folder is not moved by him or by anyone else
Frequency: Looks like it is occasional. But I haven’t been able to isolate the circumstances when this happens. He doesn’t do anything different in these occurrences
Hope this helps… Thanks again!
Best,
Johanna
Aaaaah! OK, so if he is getting a message of “You are already editing this object” then that means he also has it checked out for editing in Manager. Although it’s the same object, being edited by the same author, on the same machine, you can’t edit it from two components at the same time. Get him to go into Manager and click Finish Editing from there. He’ll then bee able to Start Editing in Producer. If he has made a lot of edits to the copy that is now in Unsorted (which is actually SEN being benevolent and trying to save your changes) he can Start Editing (in Producer!) and then use Edit > Replace Content to replace the contents of that version with the version in Unsorted.
If this isn’t the problem and he doesn’t have it checked out in Manager, get him to resynchronize his Workarea. You CANNOT have two objects with the same UID (the database won’t allow it) so it may be a synchronization problem. If it persists, check the Trash (both on the server and locally in his Producer) and make sure there are no copies of it in there (that can cause problems).
Hope that helps, >Dirk.
Hi Dirk,
Thanks again for addressing this issue. My short answer to all of your points is yes, all of these possibilities have been checked. This particular object is not open ANYWHERE in the entire organization/system. I have checked it myself. In fact, checked with an absolutely new sim too. Workarea has been synchronized not just from his system, from almost everyone who was online at that time. Trash has been emptied completely in his Producer. Trouble is it is his own ID that keeps headbutting him. Why does it look like he has logged in with another Producer/Manager instance? Is his login ID being replicated every time he logs in?
Not sure if you would wanna spend more time on this issue, but do drop in a reply if you encounter something similar in the future and are able to find a way around it.
Thank you for all your help so far!
Best,
Johanna
Hi Dirk, I know it is possible to produce SCORM files for an external LMS (eg. Cornerstone on Demand). Do you know whether or not there are any license implications for consumption of such training in the LMS. It would defy logic to require SEN consumption licensing for such usage but just wondering if anyone has crossed this bridge before.
Rob: Apologies for the delayed response. Once content is published outside of SAP Enable Now, there is no ability to track its use. SCORM is a specific standard, and there is no way for SAP to add code to it that would check for a valid license in SAP Enable Now. Yes, it defies logic, but consider it an ‘unavoidable loophole’.
