Scope

Purpose

The Page Icon Link macro is used to place a 'play' button onto a screen that, when clicked, opens another content object (or a URL or file). In this respect it is very similar to the Book Page 'Mode Link' object, but with more flexibility in what can be opened.

The Icon Link is visible for the entire time its parent Step is displayed, regardless of the relative position of this macro within the Step in the Step View.

It may seem odd to launch one Simulation content object from within another, but there could be scenarios where you need to send users on a 'side quest' in the middle of the first simulation (for example, in a simulation on entering a customer master record, where you want them to go and check the customer's credit history so they know what 'tier' to assign the customer to (and you already have a Simulation on checking a customer's credit history). Be careful using this function, as the 'current' Simulation (the one containing the Icon Link will remain open, and when the user ends the new ('called') Simulation they will be returned to the original ('calling') Simulation at exactly the same point from which they left. This macro is therefore not suitable for "what to do next" options at the end of a Simulation. This macro can also be used to provide access to a file (such as a template) that needs to be downloaded (for example, as part of a mass upload task).
