  1. Hi, if a user’s account gets deactivated in SAP Enable Now, do we lose this user’s course completion data in the Manager?

I am wondering if a user that completed the course, but saw their account deactivated and later reinstated, would continue showing up as having completed a certain course, or if that data is lost.

    Thanks Dirk!

    1. Their progress is retained, even if they are deactivated. So if they are re-activated, they’ll see all their old progress again.

  2. Hello Dirk,
    Hope you are doing well.
I am trying to set the Hide Control Bar to deselected mode and it is not editable. The Adaptable Resources and Authoring Settings are open for editing.
In fact, I can see no fields are editable. Could you please help here?

    Thank you,
    Johanna

    1. The Hide Control Bar is in the Playback Settings. Start Editing on that and see if it makes a difference.

      1. Sorry, you are right, that was a wrong screenshot, but even in Playback Settings, I have opened the section for editing but can’t edit. Could it be that it is locked anywhere else?

Many thanks for your time and prompt answer!

        Best,
        Johanna

        1. So you definitely have the Playback Settings adaptable resource open for editing (it has a green pencil or purple asterisk on the object type icon)? If so, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to edit the settings. Are the settings themselves activated (they have the green ‘LED’ indicator on the right of them)? If not, make sure you activate them and then see if you can change them. Also check that you do actually have permissions to edit resources.

If it was locked by someone else you would get a message when you try to Start Editing. But on this point…you are doing all of this from Producer, right? You didn’t Start Editing in Manager and then switch to Producer? Because that won’t work. (Check it in Manager and see if it says it is being edited by anyone / by you.)

  3. Hi Dirk,
I can’t find anything thing about Book Page instance in Info Center or Learning Hub. Can you please tell me the relationship between Book Page instance and Book Page ? is it important to know about Book Page Instance while creating Book /Book pages ?

    1. Where did you read that? I think it just means ‘a reference to a Book Page’. It’s important to understand references vs. copies, but there’s no special ‘object type’ of a Book Page instance…

      1. Yes. That is regarding references. One more question please. May I know what should I do if the application for desktop assistant is not found in PAM ?

        1. Desktop Assistant generally works with any Windows application. The PAM lists the SAP products that provide enough context (during help creation) for effective context help delivery, but it should work for almost any Windows application.

          1. So can I take that PAM is only useful for generating good Context help in DA/WA ?

          2. The Product Availability Matrix (PAM) identifies the systems and applications supported for SAP Enable Now – both in terms of what hardware / operating systems / databases it can run on, and what applications it can successfully work with (to record, to display, and to capture context for in-application help). ‘Supported’ in that SAP will provide support if you have problems using SAP Enable Now in conjunction with these. That’s not to say that SAP Enable Now won’t work with other systems/applications – just don’t expect SAP to provide (free) support if you encounter problems with them.

  4. Hi Dirk,
I need to show MS Office latest version and features using Desktop Assistant. Can you recommend me what is the best way to do it ? Using Context Help or Guided Tours. What’s your suggestion ?

    1. Well, a Guided Tour is a walkthrough of the steps to complete a specific task. Context Help is pop-up help on indivvidual screen elements. So it depends on what you want to do.

      1. Thank you for the answer Dirk. I think both are best in their aspects. May I know if I can reuse content in Web Assistant to Desktop Assistant and vice versa ?

        1. No. (Other than copy/paste the text…) They are completely separate object types and there is no easy conversion. You CAN convert a simulation into Desktop Assistant help.

          1. Got it. Thanks. Can you please answer my last question Dirk ?
German is not available for the application in its UI to roll out to Desktop Assistant. What can I do now ?

  5. Hi Dirk,
I find very hard to comprehend the difference between Refresh Workarea and Refresh Workarea and All Objects options in the Producer. Will it refresh any cache ? Can you please explain ?

    1. These are actually a throwback to an earlier version of SAP Enable Now. Personally, I never use them, but in brief, the intention is that Refresh Workarea will get the latest Root structure from the Server (so you see all of the objects) but doesn’t actually retrieve the latest copy of each of those objects. Refresh Workarea and All Objects will retrieve the structure of the Workarea and all of the object details. But generally you wouldn’t need them – especially if you have selectively Removed Local copies of objects. Instead, just Synchronize Producer when you first access it / before you close it down, and periodically (ideally selectively by Group) when you know there have been updates.

      1. Understood. Thanks. And I think Check out Objects and Update from sever is exactly opposite to each other. Please correct me if I am wrong.

        1. No quite. Check Out Objects (and Check Out Assigned Objects) should really be interpreted as “Choose which objects you want to synchronize between your Producer and the Server.” Synchronization then synchronizes only those objects you have ‘checked out’. Update from Server is “Go and get the latest copy of the selected object(s) from the server”.

  6. Hi Dirk,
Thanks for sharing your time and contents around SAP Enable Now. Just wondering if you have specific contents around the Admin?
Currently our BASIS team is new, when we did a client copy from production to our test environment the ? icon disappeared and thus I could not create any web assistant.
Any information you can share around this? Thanks so much.

    1. Sorry for the delayed response on this; for some reason it went to spam. I’m working on an Admin course at the moment; it should be out early next year. But that might not answer your specific problem with Web Assistant. (I’m not sure whether it was working in Prod and you don’t know why it doesn’t work in Test when it was copied to Test, or it was working in Test and is now not working after you refreshed Test from Prod. I’m assuming the former.) It depends on a bunch of things, but most significantly whether the system you are linking WA to is on prem or cloud. If on prem (which I suspect is the case if you are taking client copies) – and prior to the 20.11 (?) version you need to update Web Dispatcher for each system separately (simply copying config from one S/4 system to another won’t work). In short, I’d get your BASIS team to replicate the steps they did when getting it working in the first place. They’ll probably find some things are still OK, but they’ll be able to identify the stuff that needs to be re-done. HTH, Dirk.

  7. Hi Dirk,
I am planning to attend C_SEN_2011 SAP certification this month. Can you give me few suggestions regarding this ? In addition that, do I need to learn Web Assistant and Desktop Assistant for this examination ?

    1. (You posted this same question four times under two separate email addresses. I have deleted the other three. Please bear in mind I am doing this as a free service in my spare time. If I feel like someone is abusing that I will just stop answering. Sorry.)

The exam has changed since I took it (and will change again next year), and consists of 80 questions taken from a pool of I’d guess at least 200+ questions, so it’s difficult to say exactly what is on it. I would say you should know at least the entire contents of the SEN200/20e course in detail, and have a good grasp of the SEN100/10 and SEN50 courses. Web Assistant is not a significant part (and has changed a lot recently anyway) but there will be a few questions on it. Personally, I found there were a lot of technical / implementation / configuration questions, and not a lot on just using the product to create content. But again, it’s questions taken from a pool so what you get on your exam may be different. Other than that, study, study, study. Go through all of the course material multiple times and make sure you understand it all.

  8. Hi Dirk,
I unknowingly checked out contents from workarea when accessing producer for the first time. As a result, I got root folder in my Producer. I do not want this. I want only content folder in producer. Can you please help me in getting only content folder in producer?

    1. In general I always advocate having Root synchronized – even if you don’t synchronize all of its contents. If you really don’t want Root, right-click on it and select Remove Locally (so you get the white cloud icon) and leave it like that. Alternatively, you can remove specific Groups below Root if you need to keep something that is below Root. Or if you really want only a local “Content” group, delete your entire Workarea and then connect again and this time don’t synchronize.

      1. But Dirk, I need only a local “Content” group and I am in the situation that I cannot delete the entire workarea and connect again. In simple words, I should remove Root in my producer and have only Content. How to undo that synchronization ? Can you please suggest some other ways ?

        1. So right-click on Root, and select Server Actions > Remove Locally. You’ll still see that single entry for Root, but it and its contents won’t be synchronized. You _may_ be able to delete Root from your Producer but I haven’t tried it so I wouldn’t like to guarantee it. I wouldn’t have THOUGHT it would delete the actual Root on the server, but…

  9. Hi Dirk,
While using Practice mode more than a time, I am getting saved data below the input fields. Can you please suggest me any ways to overcome this saved data in the trainer ?

    1. That’s the browser auto-complete; nothing to do with SAP Enable Now. Best you can do is clear your browser data. But in general users won’t see it (or at least the first time they use the simulation) so it may not be worth worrying about.

  10. Hi Dirk,
When seeing the SEN users list, I can notice that a person is assigned for two roles namely Administrator and Master Author. I believe that Administrator has the highest authority to do any kind of process. Then what is the need for master author here ?

    1. Because you don’t always want Admins to do everything. Some clients like to have a split between administration (which may be handled by BASIS) and content development (which may be done by Training or OCM). In fact there’s a specific setting you can enable to prevent Admins from being able to create or change content. But in general yes, Roles tend to be ‘additive’ so users typically only need to be assigned one role.

      1. One more question Dirk,
Is it possible to create folders under Root in Manager ? Or else I need to create folder somewhere else and drag and drag from one destination to another.

What's on your mind?
