Web Assistant version 2.4.13

Web Assistant version 2.4.13 was released on 25 August 2020. It contained three notable changes, outlined below. (For completeness, version 2.4.12 was released on 11 August 2020 but only contained a fix specific to SuccessFactors.)

Help Tile Icons

The most significant change was the ability to insert icons into Help Tiles (for Context Help and Link Tiles). The icon is selected In the Icon field on the Tile tabbed page of the Edit Content dialog box, as shown below:

The number of icons is limited, and they are only black and white, but this is still a welcome addition. Once selected, the icon will appear in the Tile in the Carousel, as shown in the example below:

Tooltips for Tile Descriptions

A few releases ago, a new parameter (showShortDescription) was added to Web Assistant, to suppress the display of Tile Descriptions in the Carousel. This was done to compress the Carousel where there are a large number of Tiles. The full description is then displayed only when the user clicks on the Tile. This was a problem for Link Tiles, because as soon as the user clicks on the Link Tile the target of the Tile is displayed, meaning that the Description is not visible (a problem I highlighted in my book The Complete Web Assistant). To resolve this, if the parameter showShortDescription=false is used, the Description is displayed as a ToolTip as soon as the user hovers the cursor over the Tile. This is shown in the example below:

In the above example, only the Tile Title is displayed for the Tiles by default. The user has clicked on the Calendar Settings tile to show its Description, and has then hovered over the My Tasks Tile, resulting in its Description being displayed as a ToolTip.

Hide Carousel on Help Button click

The last change is not a ‘visible’ one, but may be useful. If a user clicks on the button for the currently-displayed ‘help category’ (Help Topics, Guided Tours, Learning, or What’s New) then the Carousel is hidden, leaving only the Help Stripe displayed. This is effectively the same as clicking on the Hide Carousel button, if this button has been enabled.
